We return to the Hotel Rex in the seaside resort of Weymouth, with its beautiful beaches and idyllic leisure harbour, which nestles perfectly alongside the rugged Isle of Portland.
Day 1 We make our way west to Athelhampton House, one of the finest examples of a Tudor Manor House in England. Explore the glorious Great Hall, the Elizabethan gardens and enjoy a light lunch of soup and sandwiches. We continue our journey to Weymouth and our hotel.
Day 2 Today we visit Swanage and enjoy a return heritage train ride on the Swanage Railway to Norden through the Purbeck Hills with views of the ruins of Corfe Castle along the way. You then have some free time to stroll along the promenade at Swanage or visit the shops before we return to Weymouth.
Day 3 In the morning we visit Dorchester, an historic market town with its roots in Roman times and close associations with Thomas Hardy. We visit Max Gate, the atmospheric Victorian home where Hardy wrote about Tess of The d’Urbervilles and much of his poetry. The rest of the day is free in Weymouth, or join your driver on a drive around the Isle of Portland.
Day 4 We leave our hotel after breakfast and travel via Bournemouth with a stop for refreshments. We arrive in the local area in the afternoon.
