After a very successful tour based in this hotel in 2011, we return to the Hotel Rex in the seaside resort of Weymouth, with its golden beaches and idyllic leisure harbour, which nestles perfectly alongside the rugged Isle of Portland. We travel inland to Dorchester and Shaftesbury and take a cruise along the Jurassic Coast from Exmouth.
ITINERARY
Day 1 After your taxi pick up, we make our way west to Bournemouth, where there will be free time to look around and have lunch before continuing our journey to Weymouth and our hotel.
Day 2 Today we travel along the Jurassic Coast to Exmouth where we join a pleasure boat for a 2-hour cruise to Sidmouth. A full commentary is given on the history and wildlife including Kittiwakes, Periguine Falcons and, for the lucky few, the dolphins. The cruise will require negotiation of some steps due to the tide. An alternative to the cruise is to have leisure time in Sidmouth instead.
Day 3 We visit two pretty towns today starting with Dorchester, where you can visit the shops and cafés on the pedestrianised main street, and continuing to Shaftesbury. Walk down the famous ‘Hovis’ Gold Hill if you dare, or take in the glorious views from Park Walk.
Day 4 This morning we travel the short distance onto the Isle of Portland, which is actually a peninsula joined to the mainland of Dorset by the narrow spit of Chesil Beach. The outstanding scenery is enhanced by Portland Bill Lighthouse and Portland Castle. The afternoon is free to enjoy Weymouth.
Day 5 We leave our hotel after breakfast and travel via Poole and the famous Sandbanks development before we arrive back to where your taxi will be waiting to take you home.
