NEW TOUR
This tour to southern Yorkshire and the northern area of the Peak District encompasses Brontë County with a journey into the past by steam train, visits to Harewood House and Brodsworth Hall, both remarkable historic properties, and a tour through the Peaks to the peaceful world of ‘Last of The Summer Wine’.
ITINERARY
Day 1 After picking you up from your door, we travel north via Leicester to reach our hotel near the small town of Tankersley, south of Barnsley. A welcome drink will be served before dinner for a chance to meet your fellow guests.
Day 2 We travel into Brontë Country today with a return journey on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway starting in Oxenhope. We then transfer by coach to Haworth, nestled on the edge of the West Yorkshire moorlands. There is a chance to have lunch before we enter the Brontë Parsonage Museum.
Day 3 After a leisurely breakfast, we travel north via Tadcaster to Harewood, home to the Queen’s cousin, and renowned for its stunning architecture, exquisite interiors and ‘Capability Brown’ gardens. We visit the magnificent staterooms, the ‘Below Stairs’ exhibition and have time to explore the grounds.
Day 4 Today we travel west into the Peak District National Park. We travel through the pretty village of Cawthorne to Holmfirth – home to ‘Last of the Summer Wine’. We cross the Pennines and travel into Longdendale and Glossop and then over the Snake Pass, visiting the Upper Derwent Visitor Centre and the Ladybower Reservoir, used in World War II to practice for the famous Dambusters Raid.
Day 5 After a free morning to relax in our hotel, we visit Brodsworth Hall, a beautiful Victorian country house where time has stood still. Life ‘below stairs’ is on view in the servants’ wing and the house is surrounded by restored grand gardens in miniature. Our last afternoon is free to relax at the hotel.
Day 6 We make our way south stopping at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire for lunch. We continue into our local area, our taxis and home.
