NEW TOUR Please note: This tour includes some steep slopes and stairways, particularly at Dover Castle and Ightham Mote.
This tour incorporates some of the best areas of the pretty county of Kent. We visit Dover Castle, Penshurst Place and the lesser known Ightham Mote, as well as spending time exploring Canterbury and enjoying a tour and glass of wine at the oldest commercial vineyard in Kent.
ITINERARY
Day 1 After our door to door service, we make our way across country to Biddenden Vineyard where we enjoy a tour, an informative talk and a glass of wine. We then continue to our hotel near Maidstone arriving late afternoon.
Day 2 Today we travel down to the White Cliffs and explore Henry II’s magnificent castle at Dover. We visit the richly-furnished Great Tower, where costumed actors introduce medieval life at court, and the atmospheric Secret Wartime Tunnels.
Day 3 A day out today in Canterbury. You could visit the remarkable cathedral, the oldest in the country, or parts of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, or just enjoy the shops.
Day 4 This morning we head for Penshurst Place, one of Kent’s finest historic houses, with a peaceful setting in the picturesque Weald of Kent and a history which reaches back over six and a half centuries. The afternoon is spent in Tunbridge Wells, with time to explore the Pantiles.
Day 5 Leaving our hotel after breakfast, we travel to Ightham Mote, a romantic moated manor house with 700 years of history which has been owned by medieval knights, courtiers to Henry VIII and high-society Victorians. The building is surrounded by peaceful gardens with an orchard, water features, lakes and woodland. Mid afternoon we continue our journey homewards to meet our taxis.
