This beautiful area of England has inspired many great artists and writers, and we follow in the footsteps of Wordsworth to some of the places closest to his heart. We enjoy the lakes both from the shore and from the water and have included a cruise on Lake Ullswater, and a visit to the beautiful Holker Hall.

ITINERARY

Day 1 After our door to door service, we set off northwards making suitable refreshment stops along the way and reaching Glenridding and our hotel late afternoon.

Day 2 We travel over the Kirkstone Pass and along the shores of Lake Windermere through Ambleside and past Rydal Mount, William Wordsworth’s last home. In Grasmere we visit Dove Cottage, the 400-year-old former inn where William spent his early married life.

Day 3 We spend the day viewing some of the beautiful northern lakes including Derwentwater, Thirlmere and Bassenthwaite and make a stop in Keswick. We also visit the childhood home of William Wordsworth at Cockermouth. The return journey takes us via Skiddaw Forest.

Day 4 Travelling south following the eastern side of Lake Windermere, we first visit Holker Hall to explore the house and 25 acres of award winning gardens. In the afternoon you have a choice between free time in the Bowness on Windermere or a visit to the Lakeland Motor Museum (entrance approx. £6).

Day 5 This morning we take a steamer trip on Lake Ullswater – the second largest and possibly most beautiful lake in England. This afternoon is free to relax at our hotel or stroll along the lakeside.

Day 6 Departing after breakfast, we head southwards via Cheltenham to our local area, making suitable refreshment stops along the way.
