ITINERARY
Day 1 After our door to door service, we set off northwards via Oxford and Evesham, reaching Newby Bridge and our hotel late afternoon.
Day 2 A day exploring some of the most beautiful routes through the Lake District, visiting the places most loved by William Wordsworth. We travel north along the west shore of Lake Windermere through Ambleside and past Rydal Mount, William’s last home. In Grasmere we visit Dove Cottage, the 400-year-old former inn where William spent his early married life. Finally to Cockermouth to visit his childhood home. We return via Bassenthwaite Lake.
Day 3 After breakfast we head west to Ravenglass. We board a train for a ride on the seven-mile Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, through hidden Miterdale, to the grandeur of the Eskdale Valley and Dalegarth, at the foot of England’s highest mountains. On our return we visit the haunted Muncaster Castle, the extensive gardens and the World Owl Centre.
Day 4 We spend the day visiting some of the beautiful northern lakes including Derwent Water and Thirlmere. We take a cruise on Lake Ullswater with ‘Ullswater Steamers’ between Pooley Bridge and Glenridding and visit the Rheged Visitor Centre.
Day 5 Today is free to relax and enjoy Newby Bridge. In the afternoon you might like to take an optional excursion down to Holker Hall, to visit the house, 25 acres of award winning gardens and the Lakeland Motor Museum (Admission approx £7).
Day 6 Departing after breakfast, we head southwards via Cheltenham and Newbury to our local area, making suitable refreshment stops along the way.
