ITINERARY
Day 1 After our door to door service, we set off northwards via Oxford and Evesham, reaching Glenridding and our hotel late afternoon.
Day 2 We travel over the Kirkstone Pass to Bowness and along the shores of Lake Windermere through Ambleside and past Rydal Mount, William Wordsworth’s last home. In Grasmere we visit Dove Cottage, the 400-year-old former inn where William spent his early married life.
Day 3 Today we head south to Ambleside down to Conniston and on to Ravenglass. We board a train for a ride on the seven-mile Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, through hidden Miterdale, to the grandeur of the Eskdale Valley and Dalegarth, at the foot of England’s highest mountains. On our return we visit the haunted Muncaster Castle, the extensive gardens and the World Owl Centre.
Day 4 We spend the day visiting some of the beautiful northern lakes including Derwent Water and Thirlmere. We also visit the Rheged Visitor Centre and the childhood home of William Wordsworth at Cockermouth. The return journey takes us via Bassenthwaite Lake.
Day 5 This morning a steamer trip on Lake Ullswater, and in the afternoon you might like to take an optional excursion to Holker Hall, to visit the house, 25 acres of award winning gardens and the Lakeland Motor Museum (admission approx £7).
Day 6 Departing after breakfast, we head southwards via Cheltenham and Newbury to our local area, making suitable refreshment stops along the way.
