ITINERARY
Day 1 Leaving our local area in the morning, we head for Tunbridge Wells. We stop at the Pantiles for free time for lunch before continuing to our hotel outside Rochester.
Day 2 Today we visit Walmer Castle, originally built in the reign of Henry VIII, much loved by the Duke of Wellington and more recently, the Queen Mother. The rooms used by the Queen Mother and the gardens presented to her on her 95th birthday are open to visitors. The beautiful gardens surrounding the house also include a commemorative lawn, woodland walk and working kitchen garden. In the afternoon we visit Canterbury, with its historic city centre and magnificent cathedral.
Day 3 We spend the day at Chatham Historic Dockyards, a stunning 80 acre site with historic buildings, museum galleries, historic warships and a vibrant programme of events and activities. In the afternoon we board the Paddle Steamer Kingswear Castle for a leisurely 1½ hour cruise.
Day 4 Today we visit Leeds Castle, set on two islands on the River Len and home to Royalty, Lords and Ladies for 900 years. Tour the castle, delightful gardens and the internationally renowned aviaries. The afternoon is at leisure in Rochester or enjoying the leisure facilities of our hotel.
Day 5 We depart after breakfast and travel south for a visit to Rye with its charming cobbled streets and pretty buildings. We then continue to Battle, where you might like to visit the Abbey or ‘Yesterday’s World’ museum. We make our way west and arrive home early evening.
