Parkhotel du Sauvage

Meiringen is a traditional Swiss town full of charm with plenty of shops. Although Sherlock Holmes did not exist in reality, in Meiringen you will find a museum and a monument in his honour situated in Conan Doyle Place. Our hotel is the Parkhotel Du Sauvage, a carefully renovated four-star hotel originally built in 1880. The hotel has 71 bedrooms all with satellite TV, telephone, safe and hairdryer. The hotel’s charisma and ambience offer guests a Swiss experience to be remembered. There are extensive gardens to be enjoyed and the hotel has a lift.
Grand Hotel Cadenabbia (Italy)
The town is situated on the west bank of Lake Como and the Grand Hotel is looked upon as one of the finest hotels in the area. This historic property has an air of a bygone era and benefits from commanding views over the lake and Bellagio. The hotel boasts spacious public areas, a roof top bar and terrace and an open-air swimming pool. All bedrooms are of a good size and elegantly furnished. Facilities include satellite TV, telephone, safe and hairdryer. There is a lift.

Switzerland and Italy are well known for their breath-taking scenery. We have arranged a twin centred tour for you to enjoy - three nights in Meiringen and then another three nights in Cadenabbia on Lake Como. The link between the two centres is the glorious William Tell Express which starts with a beautiful boat journey from Lucerne to Fluelen followed by the train journey to Locarno and then by coach to Lake Como.
ITINERARY
Day 1 A reasonably early start is required for our crossing from Dover to France. We then make our way through Belgium and down to Metz to our overnight accommodation. Suitable stops will be made for your comfort along the way.
Day 2 We travel south around the town of Nancy where the scenery really begins as we travel through the Vosges Mountains and join the motorway at Calmar. Heading south we enter Switzerland at Basel and climb up the beautiful mountains past Lucerne and on to Meiringen and our hotel for our three-night stay. We will be served a welcome drink before this evening’s dinner.
Day 3 This morning we have a guided walking tour of the pretty town. In the afternoon there is time to relax and enjoy this lovely little town famous for its Reichenbach Falls which are accessible via the Reichenbach Falls Railway (fare not included). There are also pleasant village walks and of course the Sherlock Holmes Museum.
Day 4 Today we take a drive along the shores of Lake Brienz and Lake Thun visiting the town of Adelboden. In the afternoon we visit the Ballenburg Open Air Museum with it many centuries-old buildings from all over Switzerland as well as many farmyard animals and gardens.
Day 5 Leaving Meiringen after breakfast, we take the short drive to Lucerne where we begin our journey on the William Tell Express. We board a lake cruiser for a glorious three-hour cruise down to Fluelen, with beautiful scenery all around. Just a few yards from the quay where we dock is the railway station where we board the train to take a stunning two-hour journey through the mountains to Locarno. Your driver will be waiting to transfer you to the hotel at Lake Como, where we enjoy a welcome drink before dinner.
Day 6 A free day to enjoy the local area, maybe taking a boat trip on Lake Como. The ferry terminal is just below the hotel and there are many destinations to choose from.
Day 7 A full day trip to Lake Maggiore, one of the regions most magnificent destinations. We tour the lakeside with wonderful views of the Borromeo Islands and visit the beautiful gardens of Villa Taranto.
Day 8 Leaving the shores of Lake Como we head north through the St Gotthard Tunnel into Switzerland via Lucerne and Strasbourg and onto our hotel for the overnight stop in Luxembourg.
Day 9 Today our route takes us through Belgium and France to Calais for the short sea crossing to Dover and then on to the local area. Stops will be made en-route for your comfort and enjoyment.
