NEW TOUR

This charming new tour includes an exploration of Plymouth with its rich naval history, with visits into the rugged landscape of Dartmoor and the beauty of the Cornish coastal towns of Looe and Polperro. Step into the history of Sir Francis Drake, the pilgrims leaving for the new world and the smugglers and fishermen of the west country.

ITINERARY

Day 1 Leaving the local area this morning we travel west, stopping en route for lunch and refreshments, reaching our hotel late afternoon.

Day 2 A day on Dartmoor today, through rugged and unspoilt scenery calling at both Princetown and Tavistock before making our way back to our hotel.

Day 3 This morning we are joined by a local Blue Badge Guide for a guided tour of Plymouth taking in The Hoe, the Mayflower Steps, the dockyard and the famous Saltash bridges. The afternoon is free for your own exploration, but you might like to visit the Barbican Glassworks, the 16th Century Merchant’s House Museum or the UK’s largest aquarium.

Day 4 We cross the Tamar at Saltash and travel into Cornwall and the beautiful coastal town of Looe. This town, situated on both sides of the river, has buildings from the early 16th Century and is filled with pleasant streets and cafés to relax in. We continue to Polperro, once a smugglers haunt and now a haven sheltered from the ravages of time in its cliff ravine, with a pretty jumble of colourful fishermen’s cottages.

Day 5 Departing after breakfast, we once again cross Dartmoor, this time to visit Exeter with free time to explore. We arrive in the local area late afternoon.
