ITINERARY
Day 1 After our taxi pick ups, we make our way north through Warwickshire and Staffordshire to our overnight hotel in the area of Carlisle.
Day 2 We cross into Scotland and visit Luss on the shores of Loch Lomond. We then drive through Glencoe and onto our hotel on the shores of Loch Leven.
Day 3 Today we board the Jacobite Steam Train in Fort William to enjoy one of the most remarkable rail journeys in the world. After travelling along the shores of Loch Linnhe, we cross the 21 arches of the Glenfinnan Viaduct, through highland terrain with glimpses of the sea and the remote islands. We disembark in the busy fishing town of Mallaig for free time before returning to our hotel by coach via Loch Shiel and the Glenfinnan Monument.
Day 4 Travelling through the Great Glen and along the route of the Caledonian Canal, we skirt the shores of Loch Linnhe, Loch Lochy, and Loch Oich. In Fort Augustus we take a one hour cruise on Loch Ness. We continue by coach along Loch Ness to Urquhart Castle and return via Glen Moriston.
Day 5 A day out via Kingussie to Aviemore at the gateway to the Cairngorm Mountains. Here we board the Strathspey Steam Railway and take the nostalgic round trip through Boat of Garten and Broomhill.
Day 6 A free day in Ballachulish. Local buses from outside the hotel take you to Fort William or Oban.
Day 7 We cross Rannoch Moor to Crianlarich and on through Glen Dochart to Callander and Stirling. We continue through the borders to our overnight hotel near Preston.
Day 8 Our journey takes us through the Cotswolds, with suitable refreshments stops, before meeting our taxis and travelling home.
