NEW TOUR
Set against the famous backdrop of Edinburgh Castle, the annual Tattoo is a unique blend of breathtaking shows of military precision, battle re-enactment and military bands. From our base at the World Heritage Site of New Lanark, we have also included a visit to the Royal Yacht Britannia and a day exploring the beautiful Scottish Borders.
ITINERARY
Day 1 Taxis from your home bring you to our coach and we make our way north to our overnight hotel in Cumbria.
Day 2 After breakfast we continue north, into the borders and up to New Lanark, making suitable refreshment stops along the way. Once at this remarkable World Heritage Site, we have time to discover the fascinating history of the impressive cotton mill village. We then check into our hotel on the site.
Day 3 A free morning in New Lanark is followed by lunch at our hotel. We then travel into Edinburgh and visit the Royal Yacht Britannia, steeped in history and filled with artefacts from The Royal Collection. We explore the five decks gaining a unique insight into what life on board was like for the Royal Family, the officers and staff. An afternoon tea will be provided before taking our seats in the stands for the 2012 Military Tattoo. After the spectacular show we return to New Lanark.
Day 4 Our day in the beautiful borders region begins with a visit to Peebles on the banks of the River Tweed, then along gorgeous Tweeddale to Selkirk, on the edge of the Ettrick Forest. From here we continue south past St Mary’s Loch and the Loch of the Lowes to the attractive 19th Century spa town of Moffat, with free time for sightseeing. We then travel north again, past Devil’s Beef Tub and again follow the River Tweed back to our hotel.
Day 5 Leaving our hotel after breakfast, we travel down across the border and through the Yorkshire Dales and have some free time in the pretty town of Skipton ‘Gateway to the Dales’. We then continue to our overnight hotel in Yorkshire.
Day 6 After breakfast, we make our way south to the south coast, where we join our taxis for home.
