This lovely break returns us to the south of Cornwall to relax and enjoy the summer sun. We have included visits to pretty St Ives and bustling Truro, two excellent gardens at Glendurgan and Trengwainton, and a cruise along the River Fal.
ITINERARY
Day 1 After being picked up from your door, join our coach and we go west through Devon and into Cornwall, making suitable refreshment stops along the way and reaching our hotel late afternoon.
Day 2 We have a morning drive around the Roseland Peninsula, one of the most picturesque and unspoilt parts of the British Isles. We pass beautiful cliffs and beaches, delightful rivers and countryside, pretty villages and hamlets and visit St Mawes. We are in Truro over lunchtime before enjoying an afternoon cruise on the River Fal.
Day 3 A morning visit to Glendurgan Gardens, one of the great sub-tropical gardens of the south west. The garden was created by the Fox family and is set in a wooded valley leading down to the hamlet of Durgan on the shore of the pretty Helford Estuary. Lose yourself in the 176 year-old cherry laurel maze, stroll among the exotic trees and through the open glades or just enjoy delicious home-cooked locally sourced food, with cream teas available in the tea shop. The rest of the day is free in Falmouth.
Day 4 We first travel to St Ives, the pretty little coastal town with a maze of narrow cobbled streets and alleyways bursting with galleries, craft shops and cafés. In the afternoon we visit Trengwainton Gardens, a gem all year round with giant tree ferns, tender exotics and a walled kitchen garden. Enjoy stunning views over Mounts Bay from the terrace.
Day 5 We return home via Dorchester, stopping en route for refreshments.
