The Oxford Belfry
The Oxford Belfry sits just south of Oxford, near the picturesque market town of Thame, amidst 17 glorious acres of countryside. The original building dates to the 19th century and the newer hotel buildings have been designed around two courtyards with a fabulous conservatory. The hotel has a gym, steam room and indoor pool. All bedrooms offer TV, telephone, hairdryer, trouser press and hospitality tray. The hotel has a lift.
ITINERARY
Day 1 After our usual taxi pick-ups we make our way north to Oxford, arriving in time to get some lunch and have a look round this charming city. In the afternoon we make our way to our hotel in time to settle in before dinner.
Day 2 We travel to Waddesdon Manor in the Vale of Aylesbury. The East Wing of the house will be decorated for Christmas and inspired by a country and city where one of the five founding brothers of the Rothschild dynasty made his fortune. Identifying the country and city will be part of the experience, through clues woven into the beautiful decorations. The gardens are also open as is the Stables Restaurant for snacks.
Day 3 Today we visit Blenheim Palace, beautifully decorated with Christmas trees sparkling in the Great Court and sumptuous decorations adorning the State Rooms, all with a ‘Fairy Tale’ theme for 2010. There are also the permanent exhibitions celebrating Winston Churchill and on the first floor an interactive exploration called ‘The Untold Story’, going behind the scenes of the great house in days gone by. The café, overlooking the inspirational water terraces, is open for snacks or lunch.
Day 4 After breakfast we make our way south, stopping to enjoy the Christmas Market at Winchester, with over 80 chalets selling goods such as Christmas cards, jewellery, food & wine and many handcrafted goods. We then continue to our taxis and home.
