This Arctic adventure travels to remote regions along the dramatic coastline taking you to the most northerly part of Norway. The entire duration of the tour is spent above the Arctic Circle, and there will be opportunities to book a number of shore excursions along the way, including a husky adventure and the North Cape. We have chosen to travel on one of the newest Hurtigruten ships for your comfort and February is the very best time to witness the dramatic phenomena of the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights.
ITINERARY
Day 1 After your taxi pick up we travel to Gatwick by coach for our flight to Tromsø, Norway’s Arctic capital. Our voyage departs in the evening. Enjoy the relaxed ambience of life on board plus an opportunity to meet fellow passengers as we take in the spectacular landscapes.
Day 2 & 3 From Tromsø we begin our leisurely voyage north, keeping our eyes on the skies as we cruise to Honningsvåg, where you can join an excursion to mainland Europe’s most northerly point – the North Cape. This is a wild and windswept headland where the cliffs rise dramatically 300m from the sea and you gaze out with nothing between you and the North Pole. Sailing on, we turn east and reach the sheltered harbour of Kirkenes, a mere 10km from the Russian border, and a glimpse into life in this remote region of Norway. From here it is possible to visit the border with Russia, try your hand at snowmobiling or enjoy a taste of Sami life.
Day 4 Our return journey hugs the coastline visiting remote settlements which rely on Hurtigruten. After dinner on board, we disembark in Tromsø for a two-night stay.
Day 5 Enjoy a full day in this lively and colourful city, surrounded by the dramatic Lyngen Alps. Tromsø has many things to offer, including Arctic history, architecture, culture and exciting excursions. Try the Aurora Safari with Dinner excursion by cable car, visit a coastal farm and enjoy reindeer sledging or perhaps visit the Polaria Centre. This extra day in Tromsø will give you time to enjoy this beautiful city and more time to watch out for the Northern Lights. Tonight dinner is not included but your courier will be on hand to help with dining options.
Day 6 We join the flight from Tromsø to Gatwick, where our Woods coach is waiting to return us to the local area, our taxis and home.
