An unspoilt cathedral city on the edge of the South Downs, Winchester is England's ancient capital and former seat of King Alfred the Great. Today, Winchester combines the best of city life with the freshness of the surrounding countryside. Popular for its shopping streets and architecture, Winchester is most well known for its eleventh century cathedral and for the Great Hall which for over 600 years has housed the mysterious Round Table.
There will be a 3 hour stop in Winchester before our visit to Sir Harold Hillier Gardens which offers 180 acres of beauty, inspiration and discovery. Over 42,000 plants from temperate regions around the world grow in a variety of themed landscapes. There is also an excellent restaurant and summer tea rooms.
