Margate’s beach is an impressive stretch of golden sand with donkey rides, a bouncy castle and boating pool, making this a very popular place for families with young children. Away from the water both the Old Town and the Market Place are worth a look whilst the town centre has all the shops, pubs and restaurants you would expect. As well as the town museum with a collection of paintings and photographs outlining the area’s history, you can also visit the Shell Grotto. Access is through a shell shop, taking you along an underground chalk passage to a cavern filled with intricate mosaics made entirely out of shells.
