Kew Gardens an oasis of greenery on the banks of the River Thames with six magnificent glasshouses and the world’s largest collection of plants. Explore 300 acres of tranquility, beautiful landscapes and heritage.
Also worth noting is Evolution House, a small glass building housing displays on the evolution of plant life on earth.
The Grass Garden has over 600 varieties of grasses, and the Wood Museum explains the manufacture of paper and shows examples of inlaid wood cabinetry. Kew Palace, the smallest and most intimate of the royal palaces.
The four-storey brick house was built in 1631 by a merchant of Dutch origin. First used by the Royal Family in 1728, the Palace was finally purchased by George III in 1781 as an annex to the White House (located where the sundial now stands) to accommodate his expanding family. Subsequently, it became a more permanent home for the Royal Family, and King George IV was born here. Queen Charlotte, died here in 1818.
